The opportunity

Why AI companies want trucking records

A single invoice tells a model very little. The trail behind it shows how real work gets done: what was asked, what your team did, and how it turned out.

What a license is

A license gives a buyer the right to use a copy of specific records for specific purposes, mainly training and testing AI models. It sets out which records are included, how they can be used, how personal information is handled and what you’re paid.

You keep the business, the original records and the right to run your company exactly as before.

What it isn’t

It isn’t a sale of your company, a loan or an investment. There’s no fee for you and no obligation after a first conversation.

It also isn’t right for every company. Some records can’t be shared, and some businesses won’t have enough history. Finding that out early is the point of the first step.

Connected history

The value is in how the pieces connect.

Take one load. A shipper tenders it, your team confirms a rate, dispatches a driver, tracks check calls, collects proof of delivery and sends an invoice. Then the receiver holds the truck for six hours and someone spends a week getting the detention paid.

Each document alone is ordinary. Linked together, across thousands of loads and several years, they show how a real operation makes decisions and fixes problems. That’s what buyers say they’re short of.

What affects the value

What a buyer looks at

  • How many years of records you've kept
  • Whether records link together, like a load number that appears on the rate confirmation, the emails and the invoice
  • How many systems are involved: TMS, email, maintenance, claims, chat
  • How much volume there is
  • Whether the records are mostly in English
  • What your customer contracts allow you to share

The buyer sets the price after reviewing your records. I won’t guess at a number before that, and I’d be wary of anyone who does.

Questions

What owners usually ask

Who ends up using the data?

The buyer I work with licenses records to AI labs and companies based in the US and allied countries, to train and test their models. Your agreement spells out the permitted uses before you sign.

Can records be licensed more than once?

Sometimes. Some agreements include later updates to the same records. It depends on the license, and you'll see it in the terms before you agree.

How long does it take?

It depends on your systems and how quickly both sides move. The buyer gives you a timeline once it has looked at what you have.

Is this legal?

Licensing business records is legal in principle, but some records carry privacy or contract limits. The buyer runs its own review, and you should have your own lawyer read the agreement before you sign.
